Warp 01
Warp 01 translates the structural relationship between warp and weft into the scale of a writing instrument. The pen begins as a straight twelve-faceted titanium cylinder, matte finished so that its geometry is read through controlled changes in light rather than through gloss. A single rectangular brass clip is fitted to the cap, and every end remains flat. Near the cap seam, seven narrow longitudinal channels interrupt the gunmetal body. They alternate indigo and madder-red vitreous enamel and are crossed once by an ultra-thin brass ring. The coloured channels act as warp threads; the brass ring is the single weft that binds them.
This intersection is not printed or wrapped around the surface. It is machined into the body, filled, fired and polished flush, so the carpet reference is carried by construction and sequence. The limited palette and isolated 38-millimetre field create a strong contrast between inherited textile colour and contemporary precision engineering. Light is used to make that contrast legible. A narrow warm beam enters the translucent enamel, producing depth within the grooves, while cooler light catches the edges of the twelve titanium planes. In the hand, the effect changes with rotation but the physical pattern remains fixed.
The pen is designed for specialist manufacture in a small numbered edition. The cap and barrel are CNC milled from titanium, the clip and cross-ring are machined from brass, and the enamel is applied and polished by hand. A threaded section, replaceable converter and black ruthenium nib allow normal maintenance and long-term use. Warp 01 is therefore both a precise tool and a compact sculpture: the act of writing continues the linear logic from which the object was derived.
