Selvedge Cuff

Selvedge Cuff reduces the relationship between a carpet field and its finished edge to one wearable volume. The bracelet is a continuous open oval of matte charcoal titanium, 38 millimetres wide and four millimetres thick, with an internal size of 68 by 52 millimetres. A 28 millimetre opening is centred at the rear so the object can flex minimally during fitting without a hinge or clasp. The band remains otherwise uninterrupted. On the front, one elongated 72 by 17 millimetre trapezoidal sapphire window is set flush into the metal. Beneath it sits a real miniature carpet fragment in madder red, indigo, ivory and restrained ochre.

A single narrow brushed-brass line borders only the lower edge of the window. It operates as the selvedge that visually finishes the woven field, while the upper and side edges meet titanium directly. No stones, repeated bands or additional ornamental seams compete with this construction. The contrast between tradition and modernity is therefore carried by touch and tolerance: compressible hand-tied wool is sealed inside a precisely milled, skin-safe titanium shell. External light makes the difference visible. A tight warm beam enters the sapphire, catches individual fibres and reflects once from the brass line; cool rim light describes the oval profile and open rear gap.

On the wrist, the changing angle animates the textile without altering its protected position. The cuff is intended for a small numbered edition. Each titanium blank is waterjet cut, hot formed around a calibrated mandrel, CNC finished and hand brushed. The textile is mounted on an inert micro-carrier and sealed beneath replaceable sapphire with a mechanical pressure frame. Rounded edges, controlled spring tension and the fixed rear opening allow the object to be worn safely while retaining the clarity of a compact sculpture.
